Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer for Tax-Aide

With only ten days left to sign up for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, we thought we would share our top ten reasons to volunteer this spring! Click here to sign up now!

  1. Help somebody who needs it most: Whether your client is an elderly person living on a fixed income, an immigrant having trouble with the tax system, or a low-income family struggling to get by, you will be helping restore real dollars to somebody who needs it most.
  2. They provide everything: Training, venue, computers, supervision, materials and planning are all taken care of, all you have to do is show up!
  3. Meet passionate people like you: In 2014, 35,000 compassionate volunteers provided 2.6 million people with free tax help. You are sure to meet a lot of inspiring and like-minded people volunteering!
  4. Bring a smile to someone's face: The beauty of this program is that the person you are helping finds out immediately if they will get a refund. Sometimes you can get somebody who really needs a big refund, and they leave very happy.
  5. Doing somebody else's taxes is fun: While you may have mixed feelings about filing your own taxes, helping someone else balance their budget for the next year really makes you feel great inside.
  6. Work for ten weeks, help make somebody's year: Volunteering for the AARP Foundation Tax- Aide program is a reasonable commitment, and operates just two and half months of each year.
  7. There's something for everyone: You can be a greeter, translator, technology coordinator, communications coordinator, or a leadership or administrative volunteer.
  8. Be a part of a movement: We want to get this program into the community so more Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders can make use of it. Be a part of the beginning of something special.
  9. They work with your schedule: Whether you are working full-time, a student, or retired, they will find a time that works for you.
  10. The people who do it love it: People who volunteer for Tax-Aide tend to stick with it.Find out more about why OCA Member Rose Chu has stuck with the program for 8 years!
